Carroll Properties provides safe, affordable housing for families and seniors. We are a small, privately owned company in southeast Alabama. Our motto is simple: a decent home, a fair rent, and a community where neighbors look after one another.
This approach comes from how founder Jon Carroll was trained as a young architect. As an Auburn student he was influenced by Samuel “Sambo” Mockbee and the Rural Studio while working on the Butterfly House. Mockbee’s idea of the “citizen architect” stayed with him: a house matters not because of costly materials or fancy design, but the life and community it makes possible.
Carroll practiced architecture and landscape architecture at two of the country's top firms, Studio B in Aspen and Andropogon in Philadelphia, and managed real estate developments for Cornerstone Capital before returning home to Alabama to raise cattle. This year marks 40 years since he purchased his first rental property in 1986.
Carroll Properties is built around a basic commitment. We keep homes in good repair. We provide community gardens. And we maintain a benevolence fund to help residents through unexpected costs, such as a hospital stay.
The company’s work is shaped by Jon’s faith and a simple rule: treat your neighbor as you would want to be treated. Our doors are open to families and seniors looking for a safe, affordable place to live.
